Electron Micrographs

Examine the electron micrographs so that you understand the ultrastructural equivalents of the structures you have seen under the microscope.

Fenestrated Capillary

Fenestrated capillary in an endocrine organ where there is extensive molecular exchange with the blood. Like continuous capillaries it is surrounded by a basal lamina, but there are rarely associated pericytes. Young, B & Heath, JW., Wheater's Functional Histology, 4th ed., Churchill Livingstone, London, 2000, p. 152.

Granulosa Cell (pregnant human)

Granulosa lutein cells of pregnancy showing ultrastructural components associated with steroid hormone synthesis: tubulo-vesicular mitochondria (m); lipid droplets (L); smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER). Weiss, L. ed., Cell and Tissue Biology, 6th ed., Urban & Schwarzenberg, Baltimore, 1988, p. 867.
